About Dr. Valentine
Dr. Rahmie Valentine, O.M.D., L.Ac., began her studies in the field of Chinese Medicine in 1982. She is a graduate of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, and is licensed to practice acupuncture in both California and South Carolina. In addition, she holds national certifications in herbology and acupuncture with the NCCAOM (National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine). Her Doctoral dissertation on herbal and acupuncture interventions in HIV/AIDS was one of the earliest (1988) and most comprehensive works in this area.
She taught acupuncture at the professional level in Los Angeles, where she maintained a private practice for eighteen years, until moving to coastal South Carolina in 2004. She served the acupuncture profession both through local Los Angeles educational projects for the California Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and at the state level as its legislative vice president.
A licensed pilot, she organized volunteer acupuncturists to participate in clinics in rural northern Mexico through a flying doctors project. Her commitment to public health programs has led to various involvements with community organizations, as a volunteer, and as a paid consultant, instructor and lecturer.
A lifetime interest in animals led to an internship with a veterinary acupuncturist while still in acupuncture school. A natural extension of this dedication and interest led to increasing work with pets, culminating in the ownership of a holistic veterinary clinic in Santa Monica, California, in 1998.
Dr. Valentine maintains a "human" private practice with an emphasis on allergies, while continuing to offer holistic veterinary care and consultations in various clinics. She is often sought as an expert consultant for articles and interviews on holistic allergy treatment. She teaches a holistic allergy treatment method in the United States and Europe to physicians and veterinarians. In addition, in 2003 she began teaching for The Four Winds Society in their Shamanic trainings within the Healing the Light Body School.
Dr. Valentine is currently working on a PhD/ThD in Energy Medicine and Spiritual Healing. The focus of her research is on the use of Shamanic techniques used as a medical intervention. She moved to the Lowcountry in early 2004 and currently sits on the Board of Directors of Options in Healing.
